[ARCHIVED] 5-1-20 City Opens Utility and Rental Assistance Programs (Ciudad de Killeen Comunicado de Prensa)

Programs to aid residents financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City of Killeen has dedicated CARES Act funding to assist residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications for financial assistance for City of Killeen utilities and rent will be accepted beginning Monday.

Qualified applicants must be Killeen residents and must have experienced loss of employment, reduction in hours of employment, inability to work because of quarantine or a related situation resulting from COVID-19. There are maximum income levels based on household size, but priority will be given to the lowest income households. Funding is limited and will be granted on a first come, first served basis.

Utility assistance is available only for City of Killeen utility bills (water, sewer, garbage and fees). Assistance may be provided for expenses incurred March 27, 2020 or after, and no funds may be used for charges or late fees prior to that date. Payment will be applied directly to the utility account.

Rental assistance may be provided for expenses incurred March 27, 2020 or after, and no funds may be used for charges or late fees prior to that date. A current copy of the applicant’s lease agreement will be required, and approved payment will be made directly to the property manager or owner.

Applications for utility and rental assistance will be available beginning Monday, May 4, at 10 a.m. Online forms will be located at KilleenTexas.gov/Programs. Paper forms will be available in person at the Community Development Office located at 802 N. 2nd Street, Building E. Applications must be complete and submitted with all required attachments to be considered for approval. Only one application per household per program will be accepted.

To submit a digital application, complete the fillable form then sign and date it. Email the completed application along with required attachments to the appropriate address as soon as possible:

Once a completed application is received with all required documentation, Community Development staff anticipates processing to be complete within three business days. All information provided will be reviewed and verified to document that it is true and accurate and directly associated with financial hardship due to COVID-19. Applicants will be notified of approval.

There is no obligation by the City of Killeen to fund a submitted application. All funding considerations are subject to the availability of funds and program regulatory and statutory guidance from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

(La Ciudad de Killeen a dedicado fondos del CARES Act para asistir a residentes afectados por la pandemia COVID-19. Solicitudes para asistencia financiera con servicios públicos de la Ciudad de Killeen y con alquiler serán aceptadas comenzando el lunes.
