KILLEEN, Texas (Jan. 21, 2026) – The City of Killeen, in partnership with Friends in Crisis, will open a warming center Friday as temperatures are expected to steadily decline across the region through late Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory beginning Friday. Forecasts indicate rain will transition to a wintry mix Friday afternoon, with temperatures expected to remain at or below freezing through late Tuesday morning.
Friends in Crisis, located at 412 E. Sprott St., will be open to all community members in need of a safe, warm place, including individuals without heat or those experiencing power outages. The warming center will begin operations at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, and will remain open until 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27.
The City of Killeen Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will closely monitor weather conditions and warming center capacity throughout the advisory period and will request additional locations if needed.
City policy requires warming centers to open when temperatures or wind chill values are forecast to reach 32 degrees or lower. Residents wishing to donate supplies may contact the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management at em-coordinator@killeentexas.gov.
Emergency management officials will continue to provide forecast updates as new information becomes available from the National Weather Service. Residents are encouraged to sign up for city alerts at www.killeentexas.gov/notifyme or visit www.killeentexas.gov/ohsem for updates.
