The City of Killeen has named Torrie Bethany as its new Executive Director of Communications and Marketing. Her appointment was officially approved during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting. She will begin her role on June 2.
Throughout her career, Bethany has led projects that reached target audiences, garnered extensive media coverage, and built trusted relationships with reporters, community stakeholders, and policymakers. Her work includes branding for government agencies, multimedia storytelling, and managing marketing and communications strategies to elevate awareness of various programs and services.
Before joining the City of Killeen, Bethany served as the Communications Director for the National Domestic Violence Hotline in Austin. In this role, she worked closely with teams and partners to develop engaging content that effectively promoted survivor-centered information and raised awareness about the importance of teen dating abuse.
Her extensive background also includes roles as Communications and Marketing Manager for the Texas Education Agency, Communications Manager for the Texas Criminal Justice Coalition and the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, and Communications Project Coordinator for the State Bar of Texas. Earlier in her career, she served as a City Council Aide for Councilwoman Ivy R. Taylor in San Antonio, where she managed media inquiries, drafted press releases, and significantly grew the councilwoman’s social media platforms.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio.
As the new Executive Director of Communications and Marketing, Bethany will be responsible for overseeing all internal and external communications, marketing initiatives, and public relations efforts for the City of Killeen.
Bethany is replacing Janell J. Ford, whose last day is May 30. During Ford’s tenure, she grew the social media audience exponentially, strengthened relationships with media and community partners, helped establish branding and enhanced marketing for Historic Downtown, Aviation and the City as a whole, and launched a new award-winning digital magazine.
