[ARCHIVED] 6-3-21 Comprehensive Planning Education Series Module 3 Out Now

Learn how your input will shape Killeen’s future.

The third of nine educational videos about comprehensive planning has been released, and the public is encouraged to visit the project website to tune in on demand. The Cultivate Community series aims to inform and engage stakeholders in cultivating fiscal health and local wealth.

Module 3: Aligning Visions, Actions & Outcomes takes a closer look at how cities have developed and the resource gaps that traditional model has created. Verdunity President and CEO Kevin Shepherd explores how guiding principles can change the course and shape daily decisions to lead to desired outcomes.

Module 1: Places that Thrive and Module 2: Economics of Land Use are also available to watch now on demand.

Killeen’s development of a new comprehensive plan is building a shared vision for the future based on the community’s collective values. Through the involvement of stakeholders, who include everyone with a personal or business interest in Killeen, the plan will identify long-term issues and build action items for near-term efforts.

Feedback is critical at this stage of plan development. Stakeholders can use a number of online outlets to give input. Survey #2 asks 10 questions to understand individual values and visions for Killeen. An idea wall asks participants to post their thoughts and react to those left by others. An interactive map allows general areas or specific locations to be pinpointed by placing markers to indicate areas in need of improvement, protection, redevelopment and more. Finally, seven forums ask stakeholders to join the conversation about the specific topics of Economic Development, Housing and Neighborhoods, Available Resources, Downtown, Land Use, Mobility and Quality of Life.

Neighborhood walkshops will be scheduled in the coming weeks to take a firsthand look at specific areas in need of attention. Consultants and staff will meet with residents of selected areas to literally walk the neighborhood to see specific sites and to talk about problems and opportunities. To have a neighborhood considered, please indicate areas of interest on the online map or leave a message on the project hotline at 254-501-6650.

The input received through all outlets will be used to establish priorities for the investment of public resources to ultimately meet community-wide goals.

The City of Killeen selected Verdunity to develop the comprehensive plan for its commitment to fiscal sustainability, resource-conscious community building and healthy, equitable neighborhoods. Verdunity’s approach identifies what residents are willing and able to pay for and creates a plan to make meaningful progress to close resource gaps and to cultivate an equitable, vibrant and resilient local economy and neighborhoods.

Modules 1, 2 and 3 as well as all online feedback features are available at Stay informed throughout the process by opting-in for updates.
