Road closures are scheduled Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the following areas:
- Veterans Memorial Boulevard, westbound outside lane from Gray Street to College Street
- Park Street, from Veterans Memorial Boulevard to Avenue G
- 2nd Street, from Veterans Memorial Boulevard to Avenue G
- 4th Street, from Veterans Memorial Boulevard to Avenue G
Road closures are for water main rehabilitation which requires open cut excavation of the roadway to access and replace the water lines.
These project segments are part of a larger north side rehabilitation project that will improve water infrastructure along Veterans Memorial Boulevard from College Street to 38th Street. The 2012 Water and Wastewater Master Plan called for the $1.2 million investment, which was funded through the 2013 Water and Sewer Bond.
When complete, 11,535 feet of aged water infrastructure will be rehabilitated increasing the water quality and available fire flow and reducing the number of water main breaks and service interruptions. Completion is anticipated by summer.
Traffic will be detoured around the work areas, and motorists are asked to use caution and obey signage.
The City of Killeen apologizes for any inconvenience as a result of this work, and we appreciate your cooperation as we improve this infrastructure.
