Killeen is set to kick off the holiday season next week at community favorite events with a socially-distanced twist. Holiday activities will be part of the festivities, and the public is encouraged to participate.
The Christmas Tree Topper Contest is a new activity that invites participants to show off their creativity by designing and making a custom creation that incorporates the theme, “Parks on Ice.” Toppers may be no larger than 12 inches tall and 10 inches wide, they must be able to stand on their own for display and any lights or animation must be battery operated. The contest is free to enter, and applications are due December 1. Entries will be displayed at Holiday Under the Stars December 4, and the public will for winners in youth, adult and senior age categories.
The Jingle Bell Dash 5K will run December 5 in socially-distanced waves beginning at 8 a.m. The route is along the Andy K. Wells Hike & Bike Trail. Registration is open through December 2. The cost is $20 and includes a t-shirt for the first 200 participants. This is the final race in the 2020 Cen-Tex Race Series.
The City is collecting Letters to Santa through December 15. Boys and girls can write their wish lists or other messages to Santa, and our City elves will make sure he gets them at the North Pole in time to write back. Letters can be dropped in Santa’s mailbox at the Family Recreation Center or mailed to Santa at:
