The City of Killeen and Central Texas Council of Governments (CTCOG) are hosting a Home Chemical Collection event to provide a free and safe method for residents to dispose of toxic household chemicals. The event is scheduled Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Killeen Special Events Center, 3301 South W.S. Young Drive.
Accepted materials include petroleum products, corrosives, fertilizers, cleaners, pesticides, paint, automotive liquids and fluorescent lamps. A complete list of acceptable and unacceptable chemicals is available at killeentexas.gov/hhw. Car and light truck tires will also be accepted with no charge.
Prohibited materials include ammunition, explosives, medical waste, radioactive material, compressed glass cylinders and commercial tires. These items will not be accepted.
Materials should be in original containers if possible and should be carefully loaded and secured for transport to prevent leakage or spillage.
Residents of the entire CTCOG region are eligible to participate. The region includes Bell, Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Milam, Mills and San Saba counties.
