[ARCHIVED] 11-15-19 Killeen City Council Names City Manager

James “Kent” Cagle expected to start work December 3.

Killeen City Council has selected James “Kent” Cagle to be Killeen’s next city manager and will formally consider approval of an employment contract at its November 19 meeting. If approved, Cagle will start work December 3.

“City Council is excited to welcome Mr. Cagle to Killeen,” said Mayor Jose Segarra. “We are impressed by his experience in city management and finance, and we believe he will continue the City’s positive path forward.”

The Mayor called the selection process “smooth” noting that each interview panel named Cagle as its pick.

Cagle has more than 18 years of city management experience in a 32-year local government career. He most recently served in the top post for Leander from November 2011 to May of this year. He was city manager of Duncanville from 2001 to 2011 following four years as assistant city manager. Previous positions include director of budget and risk management for the City of Carrollton and senior budget analyst for the City of Plano. Cagle earned a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Texas Tech University.

The City of Killeen engaged Strategic Government Resources (SGR) to conduct and manage a nationwide city manager search. City Council named Cagle and three other candidates as finalists for the position and conducted interviews November 1 and 2.
