Family, friends and volunteers needed for annual Wreath Project.
The Friends of the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will lay more than 8,000 holiday wreaths at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery Saturday at 10 a.m. The public is encouraged to participate.
The event will begin with a ceremony at the assembly area. LTG Paul Funk, Commanding General, III Corps and Fort Hood, will be the honored speaker.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, family and friends of those buried at the cemetery will lay wreaths for their loved ones first. Volunteers will then lay wreaths at all remaining graves.
Participants are encouraged to use the park and ride system to avoid traffic and long parking lines. Parking is at Texas A&M University – Central Texas on SH 201. Buses will run every 10 minutes from 8 a.m. to noon transporting passengers to and from the cemetery. This will be the most efficient way to attend the ceremony.
Motorcyclists may participate in the wreath escort to the cemetery. Riders should meet at 8 a.m. Saturday at Killeen Special Events Center, 3301 S. WS Young Drive.
