Some services are closed for the total solar eclipse; trash collection is delayed on Monday and Tuesday
Some City of Killeen services will be closed Monday, April 8, for the Solar Eclipse. All offices will reopen for normal business hours Tuesday.
There will be no trash collection on Monday. Residential and commercial customers with a normal Monday trash collection day will shift to Tuesday that week. Customers with normal Tuesday trash collection days will shift to Wednesday that week. Thursday and Friday routes will remain unchanged.
The transfer station and the recycling center will be closed.
The main branch of the public library will be closed, but the Copper Mountain Branch will remain open. The Senior Center will be closed and the Family Recreation Center will close at 10 a.m. Lions Club Park will be closed to normal traffic, but will be hosting a Picnic at the Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is $40 per car, truck or SUV. Paid admission includes designated parking, activities, swag bag, four pair of eclipse glasses and a picnic lunch for four, with hot dogs, chips and drinks. All other city parks will remain open.
Emergency services will operate without interruption.
The City has also established an information number that people can call if they have questions or need information pertaining to the eclipse. The number is (254) 616-3211 and will be operational Monday, April 8, from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m.
