KILLEEN, Texas (May 27, 2022) – Killeen’s Silver Line Flex bus route, which connects the Lions Park Senior Center and the Gilmore Senior Center, will be expanded starting June 1, according to the Hill Country Transit District, which operates the HOP.
The transit district announced it will expand the Silver Line Flex Route (RT-550) to include the intersection of Stan Schlueter Loop and Central Texas Expressway starting Wednesday.
The route will now operate with an hourly frequency so that the geographic coverage can be enlarged. In addition to the route service from the Gilmore Center to Walmart on Lowes Boulevard and the Lions Club Senior Center, the route will also operate along Stan Schlueter from the intersection with Central Texas Expressway south toward the Lions Club.
Deviations can be scheduled within a half mile area on either side of the route. Additionally, hours of operation will be altered.
A flex route operates at specific points along a fixed route, but between those stops the route can also be deviated to pick up passengers at any site that is within ½ mile of the route. Passengers may schedule a pickup between 24 and 48 hours in advance and as long as there is space available. Passengers will be scheduled on a first-come/first-serve basis. The route is open to all passengers, but is particularly beneficial to the Killeen senior community, providing service to both senior centers.
Trips can be scheduled by calling the scheduling department of The HOP at (254) 933-3700 ext. 5009. More information on The HOP’s schedule and service can be found on its website at www.takethehop.com and on its Facebook Page www.facebook.com/takethehop.
