Community asked to attend council meetings to be engaged in Comprehensive Plan process
KILLEEN, Texas (Feb. 10, 2022) – The City of Killeen has released a new video, empowering citizens to be more involved in the City’s Comprehensive Plan, which is on track to be adopted this Spring 2022.
City Manager, Kent Cagle and our consultants, Kevin Shepherd and AJ Fawver of Verdunity are featured in the latest public service announcement (PSA), inviting citizens to attend council meetings, and be engaged on the ideas from Comprehensive Plan and how they will be implemented. The new video can be found on the City’s YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/_ijSFILkluk.
Killeen’s Comprehensive Plan outlines a vision for the city, which kicked off in March 2021 with a collection of surveys, focus groups, interactive maps, “walkshops,” and public forums that have engaged the public over the last year.
In December 2021, residents attended a series of meetings to hear the results of surveys completed in early 2021 by the public to improve our city. Many citizens have provided feedback on street repairs/infrastructure, downtown plans, neighborhood redevelopment and small business investments and came together to discuss results of the feedback and a way ahead.
There were several ideas presented in the plan and the presentation is laid out on our website at KilleenTexas.gov/OurKilleen. The community is asked to join us in our next steps in shaping the future of the city, regarding building healthy and equitable neighborhoods, creating a more vibrant and resilient economy, identifying areas where reinvestment or new development is needed and determining what growth can be supported and afforded.
Community engagement is needed at every stage of the planning process and from every resident and stakeholder. The community’s ideas are what will shape our city’s future, so we want citizens to join us at our meetings and continue to weigh in on what they want our city to look like.
As a reminder, Mayor Jose Segarra and City Councilmembers are featured in a promo that was released in December 2021, as well, located on the City’s YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/6wkwne7n0x4.
