KILLEEN, Texas (Sep. 2, 2021) – Killeen Mayor, Jose Segarra is kicking off National Preparedness Month with a public service announcement and advice to be ready and stay safe during a disaster or emergency.
September is observed as National Preparedness Month annually to raise awareness about the importance of being prepared to protect yourself, family and valuables at any time. The PSA was released today, and informational fliers and tips will be released each week throughout the month. They include advice on ‘Making a Plan,’ ‘Building a Kit,’ ‘Low-Cost Preparedness,’ and “Teaching Youth to be Prepared.’
There will also be detailed information released about ensuring residents sign up for the City’s Code Red emergency notification system on KilleenTexas.gov. The communication system is an opt-in service that notifies subscribers via call, text or email of potential risks in the event of an emergency. The message will provide pertinent emergency information and protective actions to participants.
