[ARCHIVED] Killeen City Council featured in new COVID-19 PSA, latest drive-thru results released

More than 500 tests, nearly 70 vaccines administered on Aug. 26

KILLEEN, Texas (Aug. 27, 2021) – Mayor Jose Segarra and Killeen City Council Members are encouraging citizens to do their part and get their COVID-19 shots in the City’s latest public service announcement.

The video can be found at this link and will be on the City’s other social media platforms, as well as the Government Channel 10 today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evWHvV8wJdo

Leaders within the City of Killeen kicked off the campaign to help reach more residents and provide information on getting tested and vaccinated, as well as push for vaccinated individuals to remain vigilant.

During our Aug. 26 COVID-19 drive-thru vaccine and testing site, 527 tests were given and 68 vaccines were administered. 67 tests were positive.

On Friday, Aug. 13, Mayor Jose Segarra released the first in series of public service announcements. On Monday, Aug. 14, the City released the first of several informational fliers that will circulate throughout the city and be shared by the Bell County Health District, as well as other emergency services and medical professionals. Fliers will also be released to residents with their next water bill for direct contact.

The videos and fliers focus on residents texting their zipcode to GETVAX (438829), for a list of nearby locations to receive a COVID-19 vaccine shot. Each person is also sent information about free childcare and getting a ride to a vaccination location. Residents may also call the connected hotline at 1-800-232-0233 for the same information.

Leaders want to highlight that the coronavirus is still present and those who are vaccinated must still follow guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, including wearing a mask, washing hands and social distancing. Leaders are also spreading awareness about the heightened effects of the Delta variant on youth, leading to more hospitalizations.
