Voters will elect a mayor and three at large councilmembers and decide two City Charter propositions.
The City of Killeen has called a May 5 municipal election to elect a mayor and three at large city council seats and to decide two charter amendment propositions. The City has created a webpage and voter brochure to assist voters.
The election webpage is available through a direct link at KilleenTexas.gov/Election. It can also be accessed from a quick link titled Election 2018 on the main website homepage. The election page features public notices, voting hours and locations, a sample ballot and an interactive voter map to help locate precinct information.
A voter brochure is located on the election webpage in English and Spanish. It provides detailed descriptions of the two charter amendment propositions and explains the results of votes cast for or against each. The English-language brochure is also being mailed in April utility bills.
Proposition A: Transfers of Appropriations deals with monetary transfers in the City budget and the authority granted to make transfers between funds, departments and line-items. Voters will decide whether to grant the City Manager more discretion in managing funds and departmental budgets within budget and fund limits set by City Council.
Proposition B: Lapse of Appropriations is specific to funding for capital improvement projects, such as road or water infrastructure, that take more than one fiscal year to complete. Voters will decide whether the initial funding allocation shall continue through the term of the project or shall be re-budgeted each fiscal year.
The charter is the governing document for Killeen municipal government. It may only be changed by the residents of Killeen through an election.
Early voting is scheduled April 23 and May 1 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and April 24 through 27 and 30 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Voters may use any of the four early voting locations:
- Killeen City Hall, 101 North College Street
- Killeen Community Center, 2201 East Veterans Memorial Boulevard
- Lions Club Park Senior Center, 1700A East Stan Schlueter Loop
- Killeen ISD Administration Building, 200 North WS Young Drive
Election Day is May 5. Voting will take place at precinct polling locations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A complete list of locations is available in the voter brochure as well as on the election webpage.
Election results will be posted on the election webpage when polls close May 5.
