Killeen Police Department and Killeen Fire Department bring dozens out for good cause
KILLEEN, Texas (Aug. 17, 2021) – The results are in from the City of Killeen’s “Battle of the Badges” Blood Drive, held on Aug. 12. The Killen Police Department and Killeen Fire Department partnered with Carter BloodCare to host the event at the community Center on Veterans Memorial Boulevard.
Carter BloodCare says there were 54 donors who gave 55 units of blood. Representatives say that means 150 lives can now possibly be saved.
“It was a really good drive,” Vickie Carpenter, Carter BloodCare Operations Manager of Central Texas, said. “We consider this a very successful event-- turnout was great!”
The event featured the ‘boots’ (Fire Department) versus the ‘badges’ (Police Department) and the public was invited to donate blood, then cast their vote for either department.
This year, the police department’s three-year winning streak was broken— the Fire Department got more votes and won. The Police Department will now have to wash the company vehicles of the Fire Department.
We thank the community for their support and encourage everyone to continue to participate in future blood drives.
