The ‘Sound the Alarm’ campaign occurs on March 8 throughout Killeen Neighborhoods
KILLEEN, Texas (Feb. 3, 2025) – The City of Killeen Fire Department is partnering with the American Red Cross to install free smoke detector alarms throughout Killeen neighborhoods on Saturday, March 8.
The campaign is called ‘Sound the Alarm, Save a Life’ and residents can sign up for a complimentary fire alarm at www.KilleenTexas.gov/Fire or call the American Red Cross at (210) 582-1962.
The campaign rallies the Fire Department, community partners and volunteers to assist in installing the smoke detectors. Fort Cavazos’s Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS) group will be volunteering and others who would like to volunteer can visit www.SoundTheAlarm.org or call (210) 582-1962.
Everyday a home fire claims the lives of seven people. Working smoke detectors can reduce the risk of death from home fires in half. In addition to installing the free smoke detectors, volunteers will help residents create an escape plan and share fire safety information.
The Home Fire Campaign launched in 2014 to help save lives and more than 2.5 million free smoke detectors have now been installed in households nationwide. For more information, visit www.KilleenTexas.gov/Fire.
