KILLEEN, Texas (June. 12, 2024) – The City of Killeen’s Communications and Marketing Department earned two Awards of Excellence at the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers’ (TAMIO) 50th Anniversary Conference held in San Antonio from June 5-7.
The awards were for Best Use of Photography and Best Use of Short Form Video.
The department was honored with the Best Use of Photography for capturing the people, community and many events the city hosts each year. One judge said of the photographs, “Having zero knowledge of this community, my impression is that is it a colorful, fun, and diverse city full of vibrant residents. You can tell the connection people feel with their town.”
The Best Use of Short Form Video honored the City’s videos highlighting the Family Aquatic Center, including the need for staff and the follow up announcement that the center would open on time and have no reduction in hours as we obtained full staffing. Said one judge: “The video segments are really well done and simple. They seemed effective and the hiring campaign was very successful. The comments were positive, and the Facebook page hosts were quick to respond to questions.”
There were a record 688 entries for this year’s TAMIO from about 80 municipal entities.
“I’m extremely proud of our team and their ability to earn these awards,” said Janell Ford, Executive Director of Communications and Marketing. “As the Communications and Marketing department, part of our job is to tell the story of Killeen and highlight the city. These awards certainly honor our ability to do so, but also show just how great our city is, because neither award would have been possible if not for our great residents.”
