KILLEEN, Texas (April 30, 2024) – Killeen Animal Services will have a grand opening for the Killeen Animal Center on Thursday, May 2. The ribbon cutting will occur at 10a.m. at the new location of 3518 East Rancier Avenue.
The grand opening will also feature free pet adoptions from May 2 to May 4 from 12p.m. – 6p.m. to celebrate the grand opening. The location is the former Eastlake Veterinarian Clinic, which the City purchased in July 2023 with the help of an intergovernmental support agreement with Fort Cavazos (IGSA).
“This is a day we’ve been eagerly awaiting and I’m beyond thrilled,” Jessica Green, Killeen Animal Services Director said. “Our team has poured their hearts and souls into creating a space that not only meets the physical needs of our furry residents but also nurtures their emotional well-being.”
The Killeen Animal Center is approximately 6,000 square feet and will be used for animal adoption operations. There are 29 dog adoption kennels, 20 cat adoption cages.
Enhanced amenities include the option of an in-house veterinarian, in-house operating room, improved surgical operation items, expansion of spay and neuter capabilities and improved kennels, which lead to an enhanced customer experience.
The current Killeen Animal Shelter located on Commerce Drive will now be used strictly as a stray and quarantine facility. The City of Killeen has another IGSA with Fort Cavazos, as the City staff runs the Fort Cavazos Animal Shelter on post, which has 11 dog adoption kennels and nine cat adoption cages and recreational amenities for the animals.
