[ARCHIVED] Killeen’s Parks Master Plan: Conder Park renovations complete

Conder Park Playground Renovation 01-05-24-4

Upgrades began in June 2023

KILLEEN, Texas (Jan. 10, 2024) – Conder Park in North Killeen is the latest park to undergo a major upgrade as a part of Killeen’s Parks Master Plan.

Conder Park is located at 810 Conder Street and the new and improved structure now features climbing walls, a hurricane slide and a large shade canopy. It also has a ‘poured in place’ safety surfacing, which means it is non-slip, durable, shock absorbent and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant.

The City of Killeen began making improvements to many parks as part of the $4.6 million Parks Master Plan, which is designed to improve, replace, and in many parks, build new amenities that invite park users of all types.

Other updates to Conder Park include a new Skatepark, completed in March 2023 and new parking lot overlay and striping. More recent upgrades include new field lights, new restrooms and a new multi-use field. Future plans include new drinking fountains, benches, fencing, lights, a new walking trail, resurfacing of basketball courts and planting trees.

Additionally, a new playground was installed at Stewart Park in 2023 and there is now a multi-use field. Future improvements include a new walking trail.

The basketball court at Phyllis Park underwent resurfacing in 2023. Future improvements at the park include a loop walking trail.

Heritage Oaks Park disc golf course was also upgraded in 2023 with concrete tee pads. These pads were the top requested improvement on our Frisbee Golf Survey, as they greatly improve playability on the course.

The Parks Improvements Master Plan includes more than $4.6 million in improvements at five of the major parks and other entities. The City of Killeen has 28 playgrounds, 23 parks, 15 softball/baseball fields, 8.9 miles on four jogging/walking trails, six soccer fields, a recreation center, an aquatic center, swimming pool, splash pad, tennis court, municipal golf course, two disc golf courses and a driving range.

More improvements are coming as part of the Parks Master Plan. The plan can be found at www.killeentexas.gov/ParkImprovements.
