KILLEEN, Texas (Oct. 17, 2023) – The Killeen City Council has approved Laurie Wilson for the Assistant City Manager position.
The item was on the consent agenda during Tuesday’s Council meeting and councilmembers were able to meet and question Wilson publicly during the previous Council workshop.
City Manager, Kent Cagle, selected Wilson following recruitment efforts with Strategic Government Resources, which yielded 88 candidates, 12 semifinalists and five finalists with in-person interviews.
Wilson has 11 years of municipal experience and she began with the City of Carrollton’s Parks and Recreation department in 2012. She also worked as the Marketing Coordinator, Administrative Services Manager/City Secretary and most recently the Administrative Services Director, overseeing Solid Waste, Utility Billing, the Municipal Court, the Call Center and the City Secretary’s Office.
“I’ve reviewed your Comprehension Plan, your Vision Plan, and I’m very excited about it,” Wilson said to councilmembers during the Oct. 3 Council workshop meeting. “To put together a plan like that takes tremendous commitment and dedication and takes a lot of courage, especially when you solicit that much community input, and that was one of the things that really attracted me to the City of Killeen. You don’t ask for opinions like that unless you’re ready to move forward.”
Wilson has a B.A.in Political Science, with a minor in Public Administration from the University of North Texas. She also has several certifications and professional and volunteer affiliations. Wilson is scheduled begin on Monday, Dec. 4.
The Assistant City Manager position became vacant on May 23, 2023, when Danielle Singh took a position as the City Manager of Jarrell, after serving the City for nearly five years.
