The Killeen Fire Department (KFD) has deployed specialized personnel to assist with ongoing statewide disaster response efforts to the devasting floods that have caused over 90 deaths.

The deployment includes:

  • 1 Search Team Manager assigned to Texas A&M Task Force 1
  • 6 Swift Water Technicians with Texas A&M Task Force 1, equipped with two boats and tow vehicles
  • 2 TIFMAS (Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System) Saw Team Members with a UTV and tow vehicle

“The Killeen Fire Department is always proud to support our fellow Texans during times of crisis,” said Fire Chief Jim Kubinski. “We are fortunate to have such highly trained and skilled specialized teams equipped to provide critical life-saving services wherever they are needed most.”

Killeen firefighters have been requested on several occasions due to their expertise and skill. Last October, seven Killeen firefighters traveled to North Carolina and Florida to assist in hurricane relief efforts, following Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Crews also assisted with Hurricanes Ike and Katrina recovery efforts. Additionally, crews were dispatched to California in January to assist with the devastating wildfires there.

A typical deployment for Killeen’s fire teams is 14 days, although time can be shortened or extended. Crews usually work around the clock when deployed.
