KILLEEN, Texas (June 11, 2025) – The City of Killeen’s Communications and Marketing Department received two awards at the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) Conference, held June 4–6 in Fort Worth, Texas.

The team earned the Award of Excellence for Best Planned Social Media Campaign, recognizing their innovative marketing efforts for the event Holiday Under the Stars. The campaign featured engaging promotional videos starring the Grinch, which significantly boosted online engagement and attendance during the holiday festivities. “This was a creative, funny, well-produced campaign with a measurable impact,” one judge wrote.

The department also received an Award of Honor in the External Newsletter or Magazine category for K-Beat, the city’s new magazine-style publication. Judges commended the publication for its smooth flow, meticulous attention to detail, and overall readability.

“These awards reflect the passion and heart our team puts into telling Killeen’s story,” said Torrie Bethany, Executive Director of Communications and Marketing. “Every campaign is fueled by our commitment to keep residents informed through transparency, foster meaningful connections, and instill pride in our beloved community. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity and honored to be recognized for our efforts.”

The TAMIO Awards are distinguished by their rigorous judging process, conducted by government communications professionals. Scoring is based on clear goals, measurable outcomes, creativity, and overall value to the organization. This year, the competition featured 658 entries from cities throughout the state.
