City of Killeen Closes City Hall and All City Facilities Monday, Jan. 26

KILLEEN, Texas (Jan. 25, 2026) – City of Killeen officials continue to monitor weather reports and road conditions and are providing the following update regarding city operations.

Due to freezing temperatures and ongoing winter weather, City Hall and all city facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, to ensure the safety of employees and residents. The closure includes:

· City Hall and administrative offices

· Killeen Public Libraries, including the Killeen Main Library and Copper Mountain Branch Library

· First National Bank Texas Family Recreation Center, gym, all leagues and other previously scheduled activities through Parks and Recreation Department

· Lions Club Park Senior Center

· Killeen Animal Services

· Killeen Code Enforcement and Permits

· Municipal Court

· Stonetree Golf Club

Solid Waste Services Update

Killeen Solid Waste offices will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 26. Collection routes for Monday and Tuesday will be shifted by one day. Monday routes will run Tuesday, with a possible late start depending on road conditions. Tuesday routes will run Wednesday. Thursday and Friday routes will operate as scheduled.

Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery

The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will be open for a 1 p.m. scheduled service on Monday, Jan. 26, but will otherwise be closed to the public.

Killeen Arts and Activities Center and Killeen Civic and Conference Center

There are no scheduled events at either facility. The Killeen Arts and Activities Center remains open as it is serving as the second warming center during the ice storm.

Warming Centers

Both warming centers will operate until 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27. They are located at:

· Friends in Crisis, 412 E. Sprott St.

· Killeen Arts and Activities Center, 801 N. Fourth St., Suite B

Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Meeting

Due to the closure of City Hall and all city facilities on Monday, the Planning and Zoning (P&Z) meeting has been canceled. The meeting will be moved to the next regularly scheduled meeting day of Monday, Feb. 9. Workshops will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 5 p.m.

Killeen Regional Airport (GRK) Update

American Airlines has not yet canceled flights for Monday, Jan. 26, at Killeen Regional Airport (GRK). City officials are in close contact with the FAA and recommend travelers continue monitoring their flight information. For updates, visit www.aa.com/.

Essential public safety services will continue to operate. While City of Killeen facilities are closed during the ice storm, the city does not control the operating status of private businesses.

City officials will continue monitoring weather conditions in coordination with the city’s emergency management team, the Texas Division of Emergency Management, and the National Weather Service. Updates will be shared through the city’s website, social media channels, and other official communication platforms.
