KILLEEN, Texas (Jan. 22, 2026) – The Killeen City Council is accepting applications from qualified residents to fill a vacant councilmember at-large seat.
The vacancy occurred after Councilman Jose Segarra filed to run for mayor. The unexpired term runs through May 2026 and will be on the ballot for the general election scheduled for May 2, 2026.
The seat will be filled by appointment in accordance with the Killeen City Charter. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2.
Residents interested in being considered must complete the Application for Place on General Election Ballot , available on the City of Killeen’s 2026 General Election webpage.
Completed applications may be submitted in person at the Killeen City Secretary’s Office, 101 N. College St., Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Applications may also be emailed to citysec@killeentexas.gov, or faxed to 254-634-8399.
To be eligible, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, not been determined by a final judgement to be totally or partially mentally incapacitated and not have been convicted of a felony, unless pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities. Applicants must have continuously lived in Texas for the previous 12 months and must have continuously lived in Killeen city limits for the previous six months, as outlined by state law and the Killeen City Charter.
