KILLEEN, Texas (Dec. 14, 2025) – The City of Killeen, in partnership with Friends in Crisis, will open a warming center today in anticipation of temperature drops as cold weather approaches the area.
The center will operate from 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, to 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Friends in Crisis, 412 E. Sprott St. It will be open to all community members seeking a safe, warm place, including those without heat or experiencing power outages.
City policy requires warming centers to open when temperatures or wind chill factors are forecast to reach 32 degrees or lower.
City buildings will be open during regular business hours on Monday for residents who need to warm up. Locations include City Hall, libraries, the First National Bank Texas Recreation Center, police headquarters, and other public facilities. Visitors must follow the city’s code of conduct while using these spaces. While daytime temperatures are expected to rise above freezing, wind chills may still dip below freezing, making these locations a safe, accessible place to stay warm.
Residents who wish to donate supplies may contact the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management by emailing em-coordinator@killeentexas.gov.
