KILLEEN, Texas (August 20, 2025) – The Killeen Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Fourth Street and Avenue B for a gas leak.

The Fire Department was dispatched at 9:22 a.m., and the first Fire Department crew arrived on scene within three minutes, at 9:25 a.m. and determined a large gas service line was leaking.

Crews quickly determined that an apartment building and four businesses would need to be evacuated due to the gas leak. Approximately 100 people were evacuated from the scene and moved to the auditorium at the Killeen Arts and Activities Center.

The Killeen Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Killeen Police Department, Killeen Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (OHSEM), Temple Police, and Atmos Energy. The Temple Police Department provided a mobile incident command post during the incident.

Atmos Energy advised they were able to stop the leak at 11:30 a.m. and advised residents to move back into their facilities after Fire Department crews ensure there is no residual gas in the building.
