Killeen Regional Airport to experience overnight power outages this week

Outages are to connect solar panels to airport power grid

City News Posted on June 24, 2025

The Killeen Regional Airport (GRK) will experience scheduled power outages on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday overnights this week as part of ongoing infrastructure improvements to integrate solar panels into the airport’s electrical grid.

The outages will begin at midnight and last until 3:30 a.m. each day.

During the outages, the airport terminal will be completely without power, though limited work lighting will be available for construction crews. Parking lot lighting may also be affected throughout the night hours.

Although no issues are expected, passengers with early morning flights on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday are encouraged to allow extra time for their travel, as airport systems will be restored at 3:30 a.m. and may require additional time to come fully online. Airport staff will be on-site during the power restoration to ensure all systems are functioning properly.

The solar panel integration project represents Killeen Regional Airport’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and operational efficiency. The solar panel-integrated covered short-term parking and rental car parking lots opened earlier this year.
