KILLEEN, Texas (May 19, 2025) – The Killeen Fire Department has announced the processional route, following Tuesday’s funeral for Captain Marvin Taylor III.

Captain Taylor’s funeral will be at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove (211 West Avenue B) on Tuesday, May 20 at 11a.m. As a reminder, there is limited parking and the church can accommodate a maximum of 400 guests, with an overflow room available for viewing the service.

The procession will be led by the Killeen Fire Department and begin at the church in Copperas Cove and travel eastbound on I-14 through Killeen. It will then continue on SH 201 (Clear Creek Road) and head southbound onto SH 195 to end at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown (330 Berry Lane) for the interment.

Please expect traffic delays. The procession is expected to occur between 12:30p.m. and 2p.m. and may cause intermittent delays along the route, particularly near on-ramps and intersections along I-14, SH 201 and SH 195. Drivers are encouraged to plan accordingly, use alternate routes when possible, and exercise patience and caution in the area.

The public is asked to join in on honoring Captain Taylor’s life and service by allowing the procession to pass safely and respectfully.

Media are asked to park/setup along the southeast corner of Highway Avenue and Georgetown Road, across the street from the Holy Family Catholic Church where there is a strip mall.

Due to limited space at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown, media is asked to park outside of the cemetery grounds and walk into the site.

The visitation for Captain Taylor began at 1p.m. today and goes through 5:30p.m. at the Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove (211 West Avenue B). Fire servicemembers will perform a salute at 4:30p.m.

There will also be a recitation of the Rosary and Eulogy at 6:30p.m. today at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove (1001 Georgetown Road). Media are not permitted to film nor take photos inside the church nor funeral home.

The Holy Family Catholic Church will livestream tonight’s rosary and eulogy on their Facebook page, as well as the funeral mass tomorrow morning.

On Sunday, May 11, 2025, at approximately 1:05 a.m., Captain Taylor was off-duty and had just left an Austin hospital after the birth of his fifth child. While traveling to pick up his other children and bring them back to the hospital to meet their new sibling, his vehicle was struck from the rear by another vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, killing him. Austin Police Department has charged the driver of the vehicle that struck Captain Taylor’s vehicle.

Captain Taylor began his service with the department on July 7, 2014.  He was promoted to the rank of Fire Captain on July 12, 2024, and most recently assigned to the Training Division as the Operations Training Captain. He held numerous fire certifications including Swift Water Boat Operator, Advanced Structural Firefighter, Fire Officer 1 and, most recently, obtaining TCFP Field Examiner. Marvin was also a member of the Texas A&M Task Force 1 Water Rescue Team, Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) Wildland Team. He deployed many times with both teams to various large-scale incidents both in state and outside on Texas.

Captain Taylor’s family and the Killeen Fire Department appreciate the outpouring of support from community members. The City of Killeen thanks the Austin, Travis County and Central Texas emergency support service teams for their continued support.
