Residents of seven counties can safely dispose of toxic household chemicals.
Killeen residents are invited to participate in a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event hosted by the City of Gatesville and Central Texas Council of Governments (CTCOG). The event is scheduled Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gatesville Civic Center, 301 Veterans Memorial Loop.
Accepted materials include paints, pesticides, herbicides, household cleaners and acids. Appliances, batteries, electronics and televisions will also be accepted.
Up to four car and light truck tires will be accepted at no charge. Each additional tire will be charged a $3 fee. Large tires will be priced on site.
Prohibited materials include trash, fire alarms, smoke detectors, explosives, pressurized containers and medication. These items will not be accepted.
Materials should be in original containers if possible and should be carefully loaded and secured for transport to prevent leakage or spillage.
Residents of the entire CTCOG region are eligible to participate in the Gatesville event. The region includes Bell, Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Milam, Mills and San Saba counties.
