Seven online surveys will gather responses for use in community development strategies.
The public can still participate in a series of short online surveys designed to gather the public’s priorities for a 3-year Consolidated Strategic Plan for community development strategies. Residents, stakeholders and public and private housing providers and organizations are invited to take the surveys by March 10.
Collectively called 2020 – Unity within the Community – seven short surveys for impacting our greatest needs, the surveys are designed to gather public responses to identify priorities in specific community development areas. The topics are: Homeless Needs, Senior Needs, Public Service Needs, Housing Needs, Public Facilities and Improvements, Special Needs Populations and Neighborhood Revitalization. Participants may take one or multiple surveys but should only take each survey once.
The City of Killeen receives two formula grants from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD): Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program. The City must produce a three- or five-year Consolidated Strategic Plan to meet HUD-Community Planning and Development submission requirements for the formula grant programs. Killeen will submit a three-year plan to best align with the timing of 2020 Census data.
The purpose of the Consolidated Strategic Plan is to extend and strengthen partnerships among all levels of government, private sector for-profit, non-profit and faith based organizations with the goal of developing a viable urban community by providing decent housing, creating and sustaining a suitable living environment and promoting the expansion of economic opportunities at the local level without duplication of effort. Survey responses will help guide how the City utilizes federal funds from HUD along with other governmental and non-governmental resources to meet those community needs.
Community engagement is critical to understanding community needs, so each person in Killeen is encouraged to be involved in identifying priorities for the activities, programs and services that affect local quality of life. This engagement can help create more effective and efficient strategies to respond to local conditions.
