Killeen City Council established a Street Maintenance Fee that took effect July 1 to improve the condition of Killeen’s roadway infrastructure. To jumpstart the program, funding was set aside to address an initial grouping of streets.
The following streets are scheduled for maintenance October 23 through November 30:
- Cedarhill Drive
- Cedarhill Circle
- Cedarview Drive
- Cedarview Circle
- Rainbow Circle
- Fleetwood Drive
- Birdcreek Drive
- Kingwood Drive
- Meadowbrook Drive
- Sundown Drive
- Starlight Drive
- Twilight Drive
- Dusk Drive
- Greengate Drive
- Spring Rose Circle
- Redstone Drive
- Dan Drive
- Roy Reynolds Drive, from Rancier Avenue to Westcliff Road
Affected properties will receive direct notices with instructions as work nears on their streets.
The maintenance to be performed is slurry seal, a process that involves applying an emulsion to the entire road surface. This treatment creates a smoother driving surface and extends the life of the street.
Street Maintenance Fees are assessed to properties monthly through City utility bills. Each single-family home is billed $1.70 per month. Other residential uses are charged a fee based on a single-family equivalent per dwelling unit. Non-residential properties are classified by use and the fee is calculated using a single-family equivalent per unit.
The fee provides a dedicated funding source for maintaining public streets based on usage. All revenue collected is placed in a Street Maintenance Fund to be used solely for this purpose. Funding may not be used for road construction or reconstruction.
A new street condition study is underway to determine the current status of each street in Killeen. This updated information will help establish priority for scheduling future work. The results of the study will be available for public review when complete. In the future, residents can expect street maintenance projects to be comprised of large, contiguous groupings of streets. Projects will be completed in late summer and preparation work for those projects will take place the remainder of the year.
The City of Killeen apologizes for any inconvenience as a result of this work and appreciates your cooperation as we maintain these streets.
