KILLEEN, Texas (June 30, 2023) – Killeen Fire Department crews are actively working and providing structure protection for a wildfire named the “Storage Fire” in Pinto Palo County. This is located south of Possum Kingdom Lake, about three hours from Killeen.
On June 28, the Texas A&M Forest Service, which maintains the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System, requested two strike teams to assist with the fire, as flames were threatening homes in the area. Killeen Fire sent four personnel, including a brush truck with a strike team leader and a command SUV to assist.
The Texas A&M Forest Service says the fire is 30% percent contained and is an estimated 1,000 acres, as of this morning. Mandatory evacuations have been in place, as more than 100 homes are in the fire’s path. The fire began on June 28, burning through about 450 acres.
Units from the Cities of Temple, Moffat and Waco are also assisting and make up one strike team. Killeen’s strike team will assist until the fire is contained.
