The City of Killeen held swearing in ceremony for one new councilmember and three incumbents on Tuesday, May 16, during a Special City Council meeting.
Incumbents Michael Boyd, Nina Cobb and Jessica Gonzalez, and newcomer Joseph Solomon were sworn in by Killeen Municipal Judge Kris Krishna. During the special meeting, the new Council also elected Nina Cobb as mayor pro tem.
The district councilmembers join the following at-large councilmembers: Ramon Alvarez, Jose Segarra and Ken Wilkerson.
The election votes were canvassed at a 4 p.m. special session. Gonzalez defeated challenger Gabriel Montalvo, 277-213, to retain the District 1 seat. Solomon defeated incumbent Riakos “Rock” Adams in District 2, 503-230. Cobb defeated Patsy Bracey, 422-116, to keep the District 3 seat and Boyd ran unopposed in District 4. All results were posted to the City of Killeen website at www.KilleenTexas.gov/Election.
The agenda item of adopting the ordinance to canvas returns is a state law requirement where results are recognized and made official.
City of Killeen elections for city council district members are held in May of each odd year. Elections for mayor and city council at-large members are held in May of each even year.
