City leaders, consultants request citizens complete survey regarding initial plan by July 8
KILLEEN, Texas (June 30, 2022) – The City of Killeen has worked with consultant, Verdunity, to release a draft of the Comprehensive Plan that has been more than a year in the making. Citizens and stakeholders are now asked to review the draft plan and complete a four-question survey on our website at www.KilleenTexas.gov/OurKilleen.
Killeen’s Comprehensive Plan outlines a vision for the city and kicked off in March 2021 with a collection of surveys, interactive maps, “walkshops,” and public forums that have engaged the public over the last year.
The document is 152 pages, although the focus for our citizens and community partners is the Land Use and Growth Management chapter (pages 61-85), the draft Future Land Use Map (page 71) and the Growth Sector Map (page 83). These maps are intended to guide new development in Killeen over the next 20 years.
A breakdown of the survey results, portraying what citizens said matter most to them are on pages 34-39. The six “Big Ideas” are:
• Positive community culture & environment
• Fiscally responsible growth
• Downtown revitalization
• Safe, affordable, & efficient transportation
• Vibrant neighborhoods
• Local businesses
This is a culmination of the surveys and focus groups from the past year regarding building healthy and equitable neighborhoods, creating a more vibrant and resilient economy, identifying areas where reinvestment or new development is needed and determining what growth can be supported and afforded.
We ask that feedback be submitted no later than Monday, July 8. The City of Killeen will host a Community Meeting on Monday, July 25, from 5p.m. - 7p.m. in the Special Events Ballroom at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center. Citizens are asked to attend this, as well as city council meetings and continue joining us in our next steps in shaping the future of the city.
Previous workshops, discussions, presentations and promotional videos can be found on our City of Killeen website at www.KilleenTexas.gov/OurKilleen.
