KILLEEN, Texas (Feb. 6, 2022) – The City of Killeen is thanking residents for being patient and practicing safety measures during the recent weather event that swept across our area.
“We are fortunate and pleased that this winter weather event did not have a major impact on residents’ water systems or the city’s power lines,” Mayor Jose Segarra said.
The WS Young Bridge reopened today and the section of old FM 440 Road, near W Central Texas Expressway reopened yesterday.
Temperatures are expected to dip below freezing tonight and tomorrow, so the City is working with its partners to open a warming center again over the next two nights. Locations and times are:
- Sunday, Feb. 6 from 8p.m. – 8a.m.: The Rosa Hereford Community Center (2201 E Veterans Memorial Blvd.)
- Monday, Feb. 7 from 6p.m. – 8a.m.: The Moss Rose Center (1103 E. Ave E)
Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. If no one is using the centers at 11:3 p.m., then they will close. As a reminder, warming centers are set up to offer temporary relief from the cold and do not offer full sheltering services, as no beds or bedding material is provided.
We are happy to have helped more than three dozen citizens in our warming centers and we appreciate our staff and partners working overnight to make this happen daily.
As a reminder, residents whose trash was scheduled for Friday’s Feb. 4 pickup will now have trash collection on Feb. 11 for both weeks. We apologize for the inconvenience, but safety is our number one priority, as roads were determined to be unsafe for our crews.
“We thank our Emergency and Public Works teams who made sure to properly prepare for the worst and hope for the best in every way possible and remained on alert throughout the event, working tirelessly around the clock,” Mayor Segarra said.
