Killeen residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste free Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Collection will take place in the rear parking lot of Killeen Civic and Conference Center, 3601 S. WS Young Drive.
Acceptable materials include petroleum products, corrosives, fertilizers, cleaners, pesticides, paint, automotive liquids and fluorescent lamps. A complete list of acceptable and unacceptable materials is available at www.killeentexas.gov/hhw.
Prohibited materials include ammunition, electronics, explosives, medical waste, radioactive material, compressed glass cylinders and tires. These items will not be accepted.
Residents should carefully load hazardous waste into their vehicles securing any fragile or awkward containers. Waste should be in original containers with original labels if possible. Leaking containers should be placed in a spill-proof container or bag.
New this year is the opportunity for small businesses to dispose of small quantities of chemicals the day before the event for a small fee. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 554-7572.

The City of Killeen is offering residents free Saturday curbside collection of bulky trash in April as part of the Killeen Up! initiative. Saturday collection is in addition to regular weekday pick up.
Items such as furniture, appliances and boxes will be picked up at curbside on designated Saturdays in addition to regular weekly pick up. There is no charge for the first 3 cubic yards, a 3 ft. by 3 ft. by 9 ft. pile. Each additional cubic yard will incur a charge of $7.50.
The first eight car and pick-up truck tires up to 22 inches will be picked up for no charge. A fee of $3.15 per tire will apply to additional tires. Tires larger than 22 inches, truck tires and tractor tires will not be accepted.
Each household may place one brush and one demolition material pile, up to 4 ft. by 4 ft. by 12 ft. each, to be picked up at no charge. Each additional cubic yard will be charged a $7.50 fee.
Items should be placed at curbside no earlier than 6 p.m. the Friday before and no later than 7 a.m. the Saturday of the scheduled special collection.
