What is YAC?
The Killeen Youth Advisory Commission (YAC) was created in 1993 to serve as a liaison to the Killeen City Council. YAC exists to assist in minimizing community problems relating to youth, while encouraging positive growth and development. YAC participates in social, cultural, and recreational activities that are meant to empower them in a drug and alcohol free environment.
Mission Statement:
To provide the youth of our community opportunities through volunteerism and service, by taking initiatives that are directed toward effective change.
How is YAC giving back to the community?
YAC holds an Annual Youth Conference using America's Five Promises to empower and enlighten youth in the Killeen Independent School District.
YAC helps beautify Killeen by participating in quarterly trash pick-ups through Killeen's Adopt-A-Roadside program.
YAC completes a project each Make A Difference Day.
During the holiday season, YAC purchases and distribute presents to families in need.
YAC fundraises and organize the Luminaries for Relay For Life.
Membership Requirements:
Potential members of the Youth Advisory Commission must be enrolled in grades 8-12 in the Killeen Independent School District. Homeschoolers living in the KISD area may also enroll.
YAC consists of 37 Commissioners and an unlimited number of Resource members. City Council Members hold interviews every September with interested students. The students who are not appointed to a Commissioner position have the opportunity to serve as a Resource member.
