For the sixth year, the City of Killeen has been named a Playful City USA by KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to bringing play into the lives of children. Killeen is one of just 16 cities in Texas and 212 cities in the country to receive this designation.
“One of the priorities in Killeen’s strategic plan is providing an exceptional quality of life, and our park system and programs play an integral role,” said City Manager Glenn Morrison. “Being named a Playful City USA for a sixth year is a great honor, and it is also an indicator that Killeen is providing great access to quality recreation throughout our community.”
KaBOOM! considered a number of factors in the designation including the city’s efforts to increase the quantity and quality of playgrounds, park acreage per capita and youth served.
In addition to its 22 parks, the city has a water park, spray park, two public swimming pools, athletic leagues and camps, recreation classes and two hike and bike trails. A full list of amenities and programs is available on the city’s website, www.killeentexas.gov/parks.
