2-7-20 Visioning Session to Help Shape Northside Senior Center Redevelopment

Seniors are encouraged to share their ideas with the architect.

The City of Killeen will host a visioning session to gather public input on the planned redevelopment of the Bob Gilmore Senior Center. The session will be Wednesday, February 12, at 12:30 p.m. at the Killeen Community Center, 2201 E. Veterans Memorial Boulevard.

The City has engaged Randall Scott Architects to design a facility that meets the needs of area seniors. The visioning session will provide a general project overview before soliciting public input on specific desires for facilities, amenities and programs. The architect will use this information to develop concept plans.

The Bob Gilmore Senior Center was permanently closed in February 2019 due to structural concerns that made it unsafe for continued use and unfeasible for repair. While a plan for its replacement is developed, operations have been moved to the Killeen Community Center.

The City of Killeen has two senior centers that provide activities and fellowship for senior citizens. Regular programs include meals, crafts, games and exercise classes. Additional programs include trips, dances and holiday celebrations.

Senior center memberships are free for residents age 55 and older and their spouses. Facility tours and memberships are available at either location during business hours.

Lions Club Park Senior Center is located at 1700 E. Stan Schlueter Loop. It is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hours are extended to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays.
